The MC14028B decoder is built in such a way that 8421 BCD encoding on four inputs gives a decoded decimal (tenth) output, and 3 binary inputs give a decoded octal (hundredth) code output with D forced to a logic '0' ". Extended decoding such as binary-hexadecimal (1/16) can be realized by using other MC14028B periods. This component is used for code conversion, address decoding, memory selection control, demultiplexing, or reading decoding.
