The NB7NPQ7042M is a 3.3-V quad-channel/dual-port linear redriver for USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.1 Gen 2 applications supporting 5-Gbps and 10-Gbps data rates. Signal integrity is degraded due to PCB traces, transmission cables, and inter-symbol interference (ISI). The NB7NPQ7042M compensates for these losses by employing various levels of equalization at the input receiver and flat gain at the output transmitter. Flat gain and equalization are controlled by four level control pins. Each channel has an independent set of control pins for signal optimization. After power-on, the NB7NPQ7042M periodically checks the two TX output pairs of each port for receiver connections. If a receiver is detected on both channels, the RX termination of the corresponding port is enabled and set to perform the redriver function. Once both TX outputs detect 50 Ω termination, the port becomes active and the NB7NPQ7042M is set up to perform the redriver function. Port AB (channels A and B) and port CD (channels C and D) are independent of each other. The NB7NPQ7042M features a small 3.1 x 4.3 mm X2QFN34 encapsulation and is specified to operate over the full industrial temperature range of –40°C to 85°C.
